Our mission at Bearman CPA is to enable any nonprofit organization, regardless of its size or current financial condition, to access and implement the same financial techniques and best practices employed by the nation’s leading nonprofits.
Nigel Bearman CPA
OWNER
A native Englishman, Nigel founded BearmanCPA PLLC in 2006 to specifically focus on the needs of nonprofits. After 17 years in leadership roles within nonprofit organizations he sought to provide the local nonprofit community with access to the same financial techniques and best practices employed by the nation’s leading nonprofits.
Prior to founding BearmanCPA PLLC, Nigel served from 1996 to 2006 as Vice President of Finance and Controller at three nonprofits, each with unique challenges and vastly differing budgets. From 2001 to 2006, he served as a member of the President’s executive leadership group at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine where he developed the annual $100 million operating budget and was a key member of the team responsible for the issuance of over $50 million of 2001 and 2003 revenue bonds. Moody’s Investor Services upgraded the College’s long-term debt rating from Aa3 to Aa2 during his tenure.
Nigel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of North Texas and gained his public accounting experience at Grant Thornton, LLP. Originally from Dartford, England, Bearman arrived in the U.S. in 1982, becoming a U.S. citizen in 2002. He and his wife, Kellie, reside in Wilmington, North Carolina with their three young sons.
Kellie Bearman
CO-OWNER
As co-founder of BCPA, Kellie plays an integral role in staffing, administration, and strategic thought partner. With a background in corporate analysis and coaching, she brings a unique ability to connect the work to the firm’s broader goals of the company while promoting collaboration amongst the team members.
Kellie enjoys the challenge of balancing her work in the not-for-profit sector with the additional roles of chauffeur, chef and extracurricular coordinator for her three amazing boys. She also enjoys yoga, crafting and beach time with the family.
Audene Moore
Accounting Services Manager
BearmanCPA welcomed Audene Moore to its team in 2024. Audene transplanted from Utah as a teenager, and the Carolinas have been her home ever since. She brings a wealth of experience to BearmanCPA, having served charter schools for 25 years in many capacities including volunteer board member, director of operations, auditor and consultant.
Audene earned her Master of Business Administration in Operations from Western Governors University. As Accounting Services Manager, Audene is a key member of our team and trusted liaison for our clients. She is responsible for managing the day-to-day workflow of our accounting services staff and is integral in developing and improving our processes and procedures.
Family is at the center of Audene’s life with six adored grandchildren, five adult children and six siblings. Reasons are often made up for family to gather at her home to enjoy food, laughter and just being together. Time outside of work and family is typically spent serving in her community, neighborhood and church. Audene also enjoys reading, singing in the church choir, homesteading on their seven acres and weekend getways with her husband, Stacy.
Quartney Beachy
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
As an accounting associate for BearmanCPA, Quartney is the go-to person for our charter school clients. Her background in finance, human resources and customer service allows her to handle the wide range of tasks needed for this role and her attention to detail ensures that the schools have everything they need to succeed.
A native Pennsylvanian, Quartney has firmly transplanted her roots to the coastal soil of North Carolina. She is a proud mom who cherishes family time and a good book, but don’t be surprised to see her fishing or exploring the outdoors on an ATV.
Denise Hopkins
Associate
A native of the foothills of western North Carolina, Denise comes to us with 19 years of charter school experience and customer service. Denise earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Gardner Webb College.
She enjoys time spent with her adult children and grand pups. Denise’s spare time is spent renovating and remodeling homes with her husband. She enjoys time spent at the lake, beach, and hiking in the mountains as well as listening to all genres of music, going to concerts, and reading.
Toni Porter
Associate
After growing up in Texas, Toni found her home in the foothills of western North Carolina. She has spent the last eight years providing customer service and accounting services to North Carolina charter schools.
An active member of her church and community, Toni relishes her role of Grandma and Mom. When she isn’t active there, you’ll likely find her outdoors; – fishing , at the beach, or snuggled up with a good book.
